Venice (Venezia)

We visited in March 2011. The flight from London Gatwick is around 2 hrs. I met up with a friend and spent a couple of days sightseeing.

Venice is an island which is accessible via bridge and train.

From the airport we bought a ticket inside the terminal for a bus. We used the ?3.00 ATVO service from Marco Polo airport to Piazzale Roma in Venice.

Inside Venice you can easily walk between the main attractions.

There is an Actv ferry service in operation on the island. We bought a 24 hr unlimited ride ticket and went to the Murano, the glass making island. Before boading the ferry you have to activate your ticket. It uses a small proximity card reader. The cards are very thin. On 2011-03-21, this cost 18 EUR per person.

We stayed at the Papadopoli hotel. It is nice, the breakfast is ok. They have a relaxing bar downstairs.
